How to become a DAN Instructor:

The DAN Instructor Qualification Course (IQC) is the pathway to becoming a DAN Instructor.  Active diving professionals who are DAN Members are eligible to enroll in this program.  A CPR instruction credential is also required but can be obtained as part of the IQC.

DAN Instructors are scuba diving educators who want to offer dive safety programs to their students. As a DAN Instructor, you can offer your students classes that will help make them better prepared to respond to a dive emergency.

  • Be a DAN member
  • Be a current status scuba diving leader with your training agency. (dive master, dive controller, dive instructor)
  • Complete the Core Module.
  • Participate in and Instructor Qualification Course (IQC) with a DAN Instructor Trainer.
  • Start teaching when you receive confirmation from DAN.
  • Must be a current CPR and First Aid Instructor.
    • Completion of one of the DAN CPR courses during the Insttructor Qualification Course (IQC) meets this requirement.

After completing the Core Module, you will take the appropriate course modules for the programs you are interested in teaching.

Instructors must maintain active teaching status with DAN to contuct DAN training programs.  To maintain active teaching status, DAN Instructors must teach or assist with teaching each course in which they are certified once withing a 24-month period.

Required Materials for all courses:

  • DAN Student materials for each course the instructor plans to teach.
  • DAN Instructor materials for each course the instructor plans to teach.

 

DAN Instructor Qualification Course Core Module:

To become a DAN Instructor you must first complete the Instructor Qualification Course (IQC). Instructor Candidates will complete a Core Module that introduces Standards and Procedures required in order to teach the DAN family of programs. It also explains how to teach DAN programs. Candidates will then complete the course module for each DAN Training Program they are interested in teaching.

 

Emergency First Response Instructor (EFR)

Course Fee $350.00*

During the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will build on your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others. The Instructor course provides you with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid), Care for Children, CPR & AED courses.  Through a multi-media approach of independent study, classroom sessions and practical teaching assignments, you learn to conduct Emergency First Response courses.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • EFR Primary and Secondary Care or qualifying training within the past 24 months or hold certain medical credentials.
  • Note:  a EFR Instructor rating is required to become a PADI Instructor

Course Content: Classroom Session

Course Time: 1 -2 days

DAN Basic Life Support: CPR and First Aid

Course Fee $200.00*

Basic Life Support:  CPR and First Aid (BLS: CPR & FA) Everyone should be familiar with the signs and symptoms of life-threatening conditions and develop the skills to respond effectively.  In addition to covering the basics of cardiovascular diseases, shock, chocking and external bleeding, this course addresses additional circumstances that may require intervention from Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Help your community build the skills necessary to recognize and respond to medical emergencies.

DAN Emergency Oxygen Instructor Course

Course Fee $200.00*

Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries (EO2) Scuba diving injuries are rare and symptoms are often subtle, but recognizing problems and inititating appropriate action can speed an injured diver's recovery and minimize lasting effects.  Oxygen first aid is one of the initial responses for diving injuries.

Prepare your divers and surface support crews to admimister oxygen first aid as an initial response for diving injuries.

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of a Instructor Qualification Course (IQC) and Current CPR Instructor

DAN Hazardous Marine Life Instructor Course

Course Fee $200.00*

First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (HMLI) Injuries caused b hazardous marine life are rare, but entering the marine environment always carries the risk of being stung, bitten or cut.   Water enthusiasts of all kinds can benefit from knowing how to recognize and avoid hazardous marine life and how to respond to injuries.

Teach water enthusiasts to identify and avoid hazardous marine life and respond to injuries should they occur.

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of a Instructor Qualification Course (IQC). and Current CPR Instructor

DAN Neurological Assessment for Divers Instructor Course

Course Fee $150.00*

Neurological Assessment (Neuro) Neurological injuries are the leading cause of long-term disability.  The basic assessments taught in this course aid in recognizing key signs of neurological injuries such as strock and decompression illness (DCI).  Early recognition can lead to faster response time and improved long-term outcomes.

Prepare your community to recognize key signs of suspected neurological injuries and intervene rapidly.

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of a Instructor Qualification Course (IQC), Current CPR Instructor and DAN Oxygen First Aid Instructor

DAN CPR Health-Care Provider with First Aid

Course Fee $325.00*

CPR Healthcare Provider (CPR:HCP) When they occur in locations distant from emergency services, some dive incidents may require team-based first-aid responses.  This course helps students develop the skills needed to provide basic life supportt techniques necessary for effective prolonged care and basic first aid.

Help your community learn to provide team-based first aid to adults, children and infants.

Pre-requisites: Pre-requisites: Successful completion of a Instructor Qualification Course (IQC)

DAN Diving First Aid for Professional Divers

Course Fee $575.00*

Diving First Aid for Professional Divers provider (DFA Pro) course is designed for those who dive as part of their job or volunteer duties and may need to comply with OSHA regulations or other institutional requirements, this course assumes participants will have a higher level of obligation in responding to dive incidents.

Help your fellow professional divers manage incidents with the most comprehensive dive industry first-aid training available.

DAN DEMP Instructor Course

Course Fee $525.00*

Diving Emergency Management Provider (DEMP) Divers will benefit from this integrated program focusing on how to respond to dive emergencies.  It is a consolidated program containing the knowledge and skills from Basic Life Support:  CPR and First Aid, Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries, First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries and Neurological Assessment courses.

Prepare your divers and surface support crews to respond with a comprehensive skill set geared towards dive emergencies.

Pre-requisites: See the requirements for the individual courses,  Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving, Neurological Assessment, HMLI and Basic Life Support: CPR and First Aid.
